PEPY's mission is to aid rural communities in improving their own standards of living, with a focus on increased access to quality education. Through our partner government schools, and our informal education initiatives, PEPY is supporting education for over 1,700 families in 12 villages and 6 schools in rural Siem Reap. We believe that education is the key to sustainable change, and are committed to a holistic developmental approach which empowers children, parents, teachers, and communities to make the positive changes they want to see in their lives.
PEPY is a non-governmental organization registered in both the US and Cambodia.

Classroom Libraries

Classroom Libraries

The Classroom Libraries program is our newest educational initiative. Working with partners BETT and Room to Read, PEPY has created libraries inside classrooms that are stocked with Khmer Early Literacy Readers and children's literature. Divided by grade levels, each library is supplemented with classroom activities that focus on early literacy and foster the enjoyment of reading at a young age. Read More

Environment and Health Education

Environment and Health Education

The Environment and Health Education Program works to increase students' awareness of their natural environment and the positive impact they can have on it.  PEPY works with local environmental organizations to support eight eco-clubs at primary schools throughout the Chanleas Dai area. PEPY also facilitates monthly showings of New World videos, a Khmer-version of Sesame Street, developed and produced entirely locally by PEPY partner RDIC. This series teaches about environmental and health-related topics alongside Khmer literacy through the use of songs, animation, cartoons, and pop culture icons. Read More

English and XO Computers

English and XO Computers

As a supplement to the Khmer curriculum, PEPY offers English and Computer programs for primary and secondary students in Chanleas Dai.  Our computer program utilizes XO laptops through the One Laptop Per Child initiative. The XO laptops are designed to be much more than a typical computer, with activities and tools tailored to engage young learners, encourage creativity, and improve logical reasoning. Using programs like Scratch, students are able to learn easy programming skills, sharpen critical thinking, improve mathematics and science skills, and even strengthen their Khmer literacy. Teacher Livelihoods

Teacher Livelihoods

Teachers in Cambodia are grossly underpaid, and often must seek additional employment to supplement their meagre income. Recognizing that classrooms are only as effective as the teachers inside, PEPY developed programs that aim to improve the quality of life for teachers and reward them for commitment to their classes. Through these programs, responsible and proactive teacher can earn food supplements and income bonuses, providing stability in their lives and allowing them to focus on their classes. Read More

Child-to-Child Program

Child-to-Child Program

The Child-to-Child Program is an educational initiative in Chanleas Dai Commune driven by its school-age participants. Facilitated by community members, these clubs emphasize learning through activities, hands-on projects, and by encouraging children to be role models in their communities. Through a dynamic process of discussing, brainstorming, problem solving, and finally taking action, student groups tackle issues such as dengue fever and basic household sanitation. Through this program the children learn not only the causes of these issues, but also how to effectively share information and create change in their own communities. Read More

Khmer Literacy

Khmer Literacy

PEPY works to promote Khmer literacy by creating libraries, providing librarian training, working with administrators to integrate library time into the curriculum, and encouraging teachers to incorporate more books into their curriculum. In order to participate in English and XO Computer classes, students are required to take a Khmer literacy test.  Those who do not pass are then enrolled in small group classes in order to raise their reading and writing abilities. In 2008 PEPY held its inaugural literacy camp, bringing together teachers, students, and parents to participate in activities that promote reading in the community. Read More
