|
Since the beginning, the founders of PEPY have recognized that successful and sustainable programs require local staff. Khmer staff, comprised of educational development professionals, classroom instructors, librarians, community educators, and office staff, lead PEPY’s educational programs. As our organization grows, Cambodians are driving program development and helping foster the community relationships crucial to PEPY’s success. Currently, programs are staffed by Cambodians from the urban centers of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, rural provinces, and the community of Chanleas Dai where we work. PEPY aims to build the capacity of local staff by providing on-the-job skills training and offering scholarship funding to employees aspiring to continue their education while working with PEPY. In addition, PEPY provides jobs to community members in rural areas where there are few opportunities for employment. PEPY is greatly assisted by its volunteer interns, who support office and program management, fundraising tours, and the endless behind-the-scenes tasks of running an international development organization. Though we are continually moving towards a Cambodian-managed organization, the motivation and hard work of our foreign volunteers continues to be critical to our progress. Interns come from countries around the world with a wide range of backgrounds and international experience, and usually volunteer for 3-6 months.
